At BCforward, we are working to make the world—and each other—better every day. As part of that commitment, we have worked over the past 18 months to implement targets to reduce carbon emissions and be more effective with our energy and resource consumption. Through this sustainability program, we are working to ensure we are using our resources, such as water, energy, and materials as wisely and prudently as possible.
Where It All Begins: The Power of Data Collection
To achieve our sustainability goals, we first needed to gather data on how we are currently consuming energy and using resources. This step can often be a hurdle for implementing a program like this because these metrics may not be routinely measured or accounted for in daily operations. But as we worked through our research process, we found several simple improvements we could make immediately. For example, installing timers on light switches in conference rooms and increasing recycling efforts are small changes that can make a significant difference over time.
Charting the Course: How We Set Targets
Once we had baseline data, it was important to set realistic, science-based targets. We partnered with sustainability experts who had experience with global businesses like BCforward. Their knowledge in the field helped us evaluate our current practices and through several strategy sessions, we were able to plan our approach going forward. Their input helped us understand what was needed to set responsible targets so our sustainability efforts would have the long-term impact we wanted to achieve.
Measuring Impact: Today and Tomorrow
As we have re-focused on our sustainability journey, it has become clear that how we conduct our business and support our clients and employees can contribute to a larger effort to keep our planet healthy. As BCforward follows the roadmap we have created to lessen our carbon footprint, we will see value created and a positive financial impact through waste reduction, energy conservation, sustainable sourcing, and consumption. Even more importantly, as we achieve our sustainability goals, we will help create a better future for our employees, partners, clients and their families.
